31 Days of DIY Denim: Day 1, Denim Pushpin Doll

Check out today’s project

by Yasmeen Gharnit

NYLON staffers created unique, DIY projects using denim in honor of our annual Denim Issue. Check back here every day of August to see a new project.

What you'll need:

Paper

Marker

Denim

Scissors

Cotton, or other material for stuffing

Thread

Embroidery thread

Red pom-poms

Needle

Pins

Directions:

Step 1: Create a stencil for your doll.

Step 2: Take your denim and fold it in half. Use your marker to trace your stencil onto the fabric.

Step 3: Pin the denim together and cut around your stencil.

Step 4: Sew around the side of the figure, making sure to leave an opening at the head. Embrace all eccentricities, and make it look as imperfect as possible.

Step 5: Stuff the doll with the material of your choice (cotton, extra denim, a cut up towel, or blanket).

Step 6: Finish sewing the doll.

Step 7: Use embroidery thread to create "X"-shaped eyes. Then grab two mini red pom-poms and sew them together on the doll's chest to resemble a heart.

Step 8: Stick some pins in, and release all pent-up frustrations about your past lovers.
