Loewe’s Howl's Moving Castle Collection Is An Anime Dream

The collection marks the last collaboration between Studio Ghibli and the design house — at least, for now.

Studio Ghibli characters are so singular that they deserve to be emblazoned forever on the fabric of luxury fashion pieces. Luckily, Loewe and Studio Ghibli entered a partnership made in sartorial: first creating collections for Spirited Away and My Neighbor Tontoro. And now, the two entities are teaming up again on a new, entrancing collection.

Loewe

The inspiration for the new collection? Howl’s Moving Castle, which creative director Jonathan Anderson called "one of my favorite [Hayao] Miyazaki creations."

Loewe

"The world we are living in needs a counteract: not as an escape, but as a different outlook," Anderson said in a statement.

Loewe

"This, to me, is what Hayao Miyazaki's animated films for Studio Ghibli are about: a commentary on the moment and an alternative to it, always heartfelt, fulfilling, full of fantasy and sentiment."

The result is a collection of ready-to-wear clothing and accessories (and a Juergen Teller-shot campagin) that are extremely cute — featuring characters Sophie, Howl, the fire demon Calcifer, Markl, Heen, Turnip Head, and the Witch of Waste.

Loewe

The collection features small leather goods like keychains and wallets; a scented candle inspired by the fire demon Calcife; plus, jackets, purses, and button down shirts, with motifs like playful big eyes, feather appliqués, raffia, and fuzzy textures.

Prices range from $155 (for personalization) to $3,300 (for bags), with apparel starting at $420.

Sadly, this partnership marks the last between Loewe and Studio Ghibli. (At least for now: We’re still crossing our fingers for a Kiki’s Delivery Service collection starring Kirsten Dunst...one can dream!)

Londoners can visit Selfridge's Corner Shop on February 1 for an immersive experience, where you can have a feast within Calcifer’s Kitchen or attend film screenings in The Selfridge’s Cinema — as well as shop the collection one day early.

Meanwhile in New York, the LOEWE x Howl’s Moving Castle collection will be available on the First Floor of Saks Fifth Avenue pop-up from February 2 to 8, from 11am until 7pm.
