Opening Ceremony Teams Up With Skechers To Reimagine *The* Sneaker Of The Early Aughts
For its 20th anniversary, the Energy sneaker got a makeover
If you're a Millennial, it's pretty hard to look back at your childhood wardrobe without picturing Skechers, which were, hands down, the sneaker of the late '90s and early aughts. While the classic chunky sneaker brand has resurfaced over the past couple of years, especially with the rise of the grandpa sneaker (or dad sneaker, or whatever male figure with a questionable fashion sense you choose to associate them with), its latest launch solidifies its place in the year 2019, and beyond.
Skechers has teamed up with Opening Ceremony to reimagine its classic Energy sneaker, the brand's most iconic style, just in time for the 20th anniversary of its launch. These are certainly not the chunky, colorful sneakers of our youth. Well, okay, they're still chunky, but OC's rendition sees the shoe in various monochromatic neutrals: black, taupe, and chocolate brown. Fun fact? This style was originally launched with Britney Spears fronting the campaign, as if we needed any other reason to snag this new collab immediately.
While the sneakers are probably the tamest we've seen come from Skechers as of late (especially when compared to these new boots I've been swooning over), the campaign certainly is not.
