The 5 Nail Colors You’re About To See Everywhere

From neon orange to new neutrals

It's officially time to ditch your choice of winter manicure color and embrace something new, and according to nail experts, spring 2020 nail color trends are all about clashing colors and elements of surprise. While none of your favorite colors will ever really be out of circulation, or disappear from your Instagram feeds, the arrival of spring is bringing a lot of new ideas, encouraging the use of in-your-face color and upgrades of some classic shade groups.

For those that prefer a manicure without the addition of delicately painted flowers or a checkerboard pattern, here are some solid colored nail options. Of course, a yellow hue inspired by the sun and mellow pastels are definitely on the list of spring 2020 nail color trends, but you'll also find that even cool colors and deeper hues are expected to be popular nail color picks this season, too.

Spring 2020 nail color trends might not include the use of any Rosalía-inspired microchips, but many of the colors are celebrity approved. As the manicure experts told NYLON, most of these colors were first spotted on previous fashion week runways, and since then, many of your fave celebs have already started trying out their take on the trends. For those of you who absolutely can't decide on a look, you could always take a cue from Dua Lipa and choose a coloring pattern that combines every trend you love.

Below, find a list of five possible coloring options for your spring manicure.

Spring 2020 Nail Color Trend: All Yellows — From Sunny to Egg Yolk

Essie, Nail Polish in Check Your Baggage, $9, available at Essie; Nails Inc., Nail Polish in High Shine Finish, $11, available at Sephora.

It certainly comes as no surprise that one of spring's top nail color trends takes its inspiration from the skies above. While this look relied on an abstract, petal-inspired application, Rita Remark, essie Global Lead Educator, told NYLON that sun-inspired shading will be everywhere this spring. As she noted, the color first got the stamp of approval from runways, and many models that walked in previous spring shows were spotted in the color.

Spring 2020 Nail Color Trend: Classic Red

Butter London, Nail Laquer in Come To Bed, $10, available at Butter London; Jin Soon, Nail Polish in Vanity Hot Red, $18, available Jin Soon.

There's nothing basic about this classic color choice. Red can always add a pop of bold color to any manicure, and as manicurist and owner of JINSoon, Jin Soon Choi noted, the hue has been a staple for decades. "A red hot nail never goes out of style," Choi said, noting that red was a popular choice at New York Fashion Week's spring runway shows.

Spring 2020 Nail Color Trend: Cool Neutrals

Chanel, Nail Color in New Dawn, $28, available at Nordstrom; Essie, Nail Polish in Serene Slate, $10, available at Macy's.

Both Remark and Choi noted that "cool" neutrals are having a major moment for spring. This means reimagining the traditional nudes and tans, and opting for muted dusty roses, and slate shades.

Spring 2020 Nail Color: Neon Oranges & Greens

Marc Jacobs Beauty, Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish in Mandarin Orange, $18, available at Sephora; Chine Glaze, Nail Polish in I'm With The Lifeguard, $4 available at Beyond Polish.

Many of nail artist experts professed their adoration for the always stylish french tip. However, celebrity nail artist Elle had a bright idea for mixing up the style. Per her recommendation, choosing a colorful tip, like bright orange and green, would make for a modern take on the trend. The shade also makes for a big pop if you're planning to paint your whole nail, too.

Spring 2020 Nail Color Trend: Mellow Pastels

Deborah Lippman, Pro Color in Happy Now, $18, available at Deborah Lippman; Lauren B. Beauty, Nail Polish in Pale Sand Paradise, $18, available at Skinstore.

In lieu of traditional, bright pastel colors, nail artist Brittney Boyce, suggested going for a more subtle shading. "It goes back to the super bloom of flowers we saw in California last year where we saw an abundance of floral shades against the rich terracotta background," she explained. "That color palette is so inspirational and it's being translated into really gorgeous shades trending for this spring."
