Lil Nas X, Mariah Carey and Lizzo dominated the popular micro-video platform TikTok in 2019, according to a ranked list published by the platform on Monday. Titled the Top 100, the list reveals the trends, memes, dances, and video editing software that ruled the platform this year. It was clear from Lil Nas X's slow rise on TikTok last December, that the young social media platform had become music discovery's wild new frontier, and now, there's a definitive answer on which artists — and songs — dominated on the app in 2019.

Lil Nas X nabbed first place on TikTok's Top 10 Artist's list, having had "Old Town Road" and its remix go viral on the app this year. Mariah Carey took second with her songs "Obsessed," "Fantasy," and the seminal classic "All I Want For Christmas Is You," spawning viral dance challenges and memes. Notably, Blanco Brown, a producer who's worked with Chris Brown and Pitbull, took fifth place after his hoedown-themed song "The Git Up" ostensibly come out of nowhere earlier this year and lit the app aflame with its country-inflected tune and lyrics. The creators of "Lalala," the song's irreverent-centered lyrics that accompanied many pranks and stunts on the app, took sixth place. And perhaps the year's most recent breakout TikTok star, Ashnikko, made it in at tenth place.
